Rawalpindi, Mar 6(ANI): An Anti-Terrorism Court in Pakistan has reissued a non-bailable arrest warrant against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for the third time in connection with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, giving the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) 15 days to deliver the warrant and ensure his presence in the court.
The court adjourned the hearing in the Benazir murder case after the FIA sought more time to deliver arrest warrants to former president Pervaiz Musharraf, The Nation reports.
The FIA had sought a one-month time to ensure Musharraf’s presence in the court but ATC judge Rana Nisar Ahmed granted them only a two-week time.
During the hearing, the FIA investigation officer prayed to the court that the agency needed a one-month time as the Interior Ministry had written a letter to the Foreign Office to deliver the arrest warrants to Musharraf on his London address.
However, the court gave only a 15-day time to the FIA for sending the warrants to the former president, and adjourned the hearing till March 19.
Musharraf was Pakistan’s President when Benazir was targeted in a gun and bomb attack as she was leaving Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi after addressing a public rally on December 27, 2007.
The court had earlier issued warrants for Musharraf’s arrest on February 12 and again on February 19, and had adjourned the hearing until March 5.
Musharraf’s spokesman has repeatedly said the former military ruler will not be going back to Pakistan for any court hearing.
Musharraf is alleged to have been part of a “broad conspiracy” to have his political rival Benazir killed before elections, though the exact nature of the charges against him is not clear. (ANI)
