Pak Parliamentary Committee on National Security wants anti-terror policy revamped
July 3rd, 2010 - 1:39 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, July 3 (ANI): Pakistani lawmakers have demanded that the government revamp its anti-terror policy in view of the continuous terror strikes in the country, which have resulted in the death of countless innocent civilians.
The 17-member Parliamentary Committee on National Security urged the government to change its strategy for combating terrorism.
Talking to reporters after chairing a meeting, committee chairman Mian Raza Rabbani said Islamabad should also review its anti-terror policies, especially when both the US and Afghanistan were doing so.
“When the United States and Afghanistan were reviewing and revising their strategy to combat terror, it is incumbent upon Pakistan also to change its policy for regional peace,” The Dawn quoted Rabbani, as saying.
Rabbani said the government should change its political and military strategy as a frontline state in the war against terror.
“The committee is preparing its recommendations and would submit a report to the government,” he added.
The committee has decided to meet again on July 7 and 8 after various departments, including the defence establishment, briefed it on the situation concerning the war on terror and law and order situation in the country. (ANI)
