Pak NA sports committee alleges team lost against Australia ‘deliberately’
October 6th, 2009 - 2:03 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Oct.6 (ANI): Pakistan’s National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports Chairman Jamshed Ahmed Dasti has alleged that Pakistan lost the match against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy on purpose, The News reports.
Dasti has called on captain Younis Khan and coach Intikhab Alam and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt to explain the reason for the team’s defeat in the elite eight-nation trophy.
Dasti also expressed doubts over the team’s commitment in the semi-final match against New Zealand, which the Kiwis won by five wickets.
It may be noted that Australia had defeated Pakistan by two wickets, thus relegating India from the Champions Trophy.
Pakistan had set an easy target of 206 runs for Australia to chase, however, the Australian middle-order collapsed like a house of cards during the run chase.
But some determined batting from Brett Lee and Nathan Hauritz saw the Kangaroos home off the last ball of their innings. (ANI)
