Pak NA body categorically rejects bill implying country’s sovereignty needs protection
January 22nd, 2011 - 6:57 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jan 22(ANI): The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs has categorically rejected the “Sovereignty of Pakistan Act 2010″ bill, expressing confidence over the sovereignty of the country.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) had laid the private bill during the 18th session of the National Assembly on January 12, 2010, which was considered and later moved to the committee for further consideration.
With Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan in the chair, the committee met at the Foreign Office to review the bill laid by PML-Q leaders Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Nosheen Saeed, Sheikh Waqas Akram and Dr Doniya Aziz.
The proposed bill demanded the preservation, protection and assertion of the country’s sovereignty, the Daily Times reported.
The bill stated that Pakistan’s sovereignty and dignity must not be compromised in any manner, and no compromise should be made on the security or effectiveness of its nuclear programme.
The NA body was of the view that the moving of such a bill was an unnecessary practice by the PML-Q, and observed: “The government never compromised over the sovereignty of the country, so no more of this bill”. (ANI)
