Lahore, Aug.26 (ANI): Pakistani intelligence agencies have warned of terror attacks against ‘high value targets’ in Punjab.
According to intelligence reports, extremists have assigned the task of targeting influential leaders and important establishments to one of its commanders codenamed ‘Kharasaan’.
Following the warning the Interior Ministry, the Punjab Home Department and all other concerned agencies have directed law enforcement authorities to beef up security across the country, especially in Punjab.
The threat comes amid warning from a top US official that the Taliban may target foreign aid workers involved in flood relief work in Pakistan.
The American official, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) may attack foreigners participating in relief operations in the country, as the country struggles to cope with the worst floods that has affected nearly 20 million people.
“According to information available to the US government, Tehrik-e Taliban plans to conduct attacks against foreigners participating in the ongoing flood relief operations in Pakistan,” the official said.
He also warned that the extremists may also target leaders and ministers amidst the prevailing chaos in the country. (ANI)
