Pak, Holland to play charity hockey match for flood victims
September 2nd, 2010 - 6:36 pm ICT by ANILahore, Sept 2 (ANI): The Netherlands will host a charity hockey match on September 14 to raise funds for Pakistan flood victims. This match will be played between Pakistan and Holland. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has extended its full support to the event.
“The charity match will take place in Rotterdam and we hope to generate good funds from the event to help contribute to Prime Minister’s flood relief fund,” said a Pakistan Hockey Federation spokesman.
FIH president Leandro Negre has sent a written appeal to all other 125 national associations to donate for the flood victims. “I hope the global hockey community will respond to the tragedies in Pakistan,” the FIH president Negre said in statement, the Daily Times reports.
The event is being organised by the Royal Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB) in association with the Pakistan Hockey Federation, the Pakistan Embassy in Netherlands and a charity organisation SHO. The KNHB has asked Holland’s hockey clubs to contribute one Euro per club member towards this cause. The donation forms will be distributed among the clubs as well as the visitors and the funds will be collected throughout the day. Funds can also be deposited in a bank account 555.
KNHB director Johan Wakkie said in a statement. “History proves that the Netherlands have a special link with Pakistan hockey players,”
Netherlands observed August 26 as a fund-raising day when the Dutch Hockey Captain Teun de Nooijer also took part in publicity for the charity match .
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary general Muhammad Asif Bajwa has appreciated the efforts. “We hope that a substantial amount will be generated for the flood victims of Pakistan through this match,” Bajwa said. (ANI)
