Pak govt won’t seek Musharraf’s extradition through Interpol: PPP

Lahore, Nov 25 (ANI): The Pakistan government may include former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the investigation of former premier Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case, but will not go to the extent of seeking his deportation through Interpol, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has said.
“He is former president of Pakistan, and it will not be appropriate to bring him back though Interpol,” The Nation quoted PPP Central Secretary Information Fauzia Wahab, as saying on Wednesday.
Clarifying her party’s position on Musharraf’s role in the assassination of the former prime minister, she said that the former general was at the helm of affairs when Benazir’s murder took place, and that is why he may be included in the investigation if the interior ministry deems it necessary.
Fauzia also disowned a statement made by PPP legislator Faiza Malik that the government would bring Musharraf back through Interpol, saying that a former president cannot be treated like that.
“If we want respect for our party’s president just because he is president of Pakistan, we should also show respect to a former holder of this office,” she remarked.
Quoting an earlier statement of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that democracy was the biggest revenge, Fauzia said that her party did not believe in taking revenge of its leader’s assassination.
The PPP was following the policy of reconciliation since coming into power, and never resorted to vindictiveness at any stage, she added. (ANI)
