Islamabad, Mar 15 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has rejected claims that his government is in “confrontation with any state institution”, insisting that it is committed to democracy and having a sovereign parliament and a free judiciary.

“This cabinet unanimously dispels the impression that our government is in any mood of confrontation with any state institution,” the Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.

Stressing that his government was functioning according to the norms of the constitution, the Prime Minister said: “We fully respect decisions of the superior judiciary. The PPP has always stood for protection of state institutions and will not in any way entangle or make intrusion in ambit of any other state institution.”

He also said that PPP will not conspire to derail the system, and would never indulge itself in buying opposition members through horse-trading.

“I believe that today there is a need for politics of reconciliation, harmony and tolerance. Constitutionalism should be every political party’s cherished goal,” Gilani added. (ANI)
