‘Pak govt. failed to present Taseer’s murder in right perspective’

Lahore, Apr 18(ANI): Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir has criticized the federal government over its “poor” reaction to the murder of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
“The government succumbed to the pressure from extremist elements and failed to present Salmaan Taseer’s case in right perspective to the public,” the Daily Express quoted Jahangir, as saying.
The former Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) chairperson also criticized the media for its “shameful” role and partial reporting.
The electronic media aired only those videos of Taseer that bred intolerance and misrepresented him on the sensitive case of blasphemy law,” Jahangir said.
Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri had shot Taseer in his chest and neck when he was coming out from a restaurant in Islamabad on January 4. The governor died on the spot.
It is the most high-profile political killing in Pakistan since former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in December 2007. (ANI)
