Islamabad, Sept 2 (ANI): Pakistan has received two US army UH-60 BlackHawk helicopters. The choppers were delivered by the US Army’s 16th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) as initial elements. The unit and its choppers will work with the Pakistan army in flood-hit areas.
Apart from these choppers, there are already 15 US military helicopters and three C-130 aircraft supporting relief efforts in Pakistan.
Another four US Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit are scheduled for arrival this week, the Daily Times reports.According to one estimate, US choppers have transported over three million pounds of humanitarian assistance supplies and rescued over 10,000 people in the flood-hit country.Earlier, President Obama’s Special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke said the United States continue supporting Pakistan through the natural calamity that has inundated nearly a fifth of the country. The US has pledged over 90 million dollars, but donations from other countries have been slow due to fears that the money is being redirected to corrupt Pakistani officials.
