Pak FIA in trouble for ‘double standards’ over Lollywood starlet Meera
January 19th, 2010 - 5:41 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Jan.19 (ANI): Letting controversial actress Meera escape the hands of law has landed Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in trouble, as a petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court questioning its decision to free the starlet despite recovering two passports from her.
The petition, filed by one Muzaffar Hussain Askari, President Social Reforms Movement and Journalist Forum, blamed the FIA of double standards.
“The FIA arrests and prosecutes Pakistani citizens for tampering with computerised passports, but Meera was allowed to go home after executing a personal bond. This shows discrimination between state’s citizens,” The Daily Times quoted the petition, as saying.
It may be noted that the Lollywood actress was held at Karachi Airport for carrying two passports in her name on arrival from the US.
Meera, who went to the US on her second passport and returned on the previous one, could have faced three years imprisonment with penalty for infringing the Passport Act, but was set free by the authorities on a personal bond. (ANI)
