Islamabad, Nov 5(ANI): Pakistan is confident that United States President Barack Obama would take up the ‘Jammu and Kashmir issue’ during his upcoming visit to India, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit has said.
“I think US understands how important the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue is for peace in this region. We are confident the US will play its role in this regard,” the Nation quoted Basit, as saying.
“Now the international community has to play its role in bringing Indian atrocities to an end and securing for Kashmiris their right to self-determination,” he added.
He further emphasized that Pakistan would not be worried about growing Indo-US ties as long as they ensured a peaceful and stable region.
“We are not worried about the strategic partnership between US and India as long as this helps promote peace and stability in South Asia. We are confident that President Obama is conscious about that and his visit to India would help promote peace and stability in the region,” the spokesman said.
Basit also said that Pakistan was committed to bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to justice.
“Nevertheless, we need India’s assistance and cooperation for a successful completion of the trial. At our end, we are sparing no effort,” he said. (ANI)
