Pak envoy describes WikiLeaks’ documents as misleading, ridiculous

Jeddah, Dec 6(ANI): The Government of Pakistan has described the documents released by the whistle-blower website WikiLeaks as misleading, pre-ponderous and ridiculous, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Umar Khan Alisherzai, has said.

Geo News quoted Alisherzai, as saying there was no truth in these unfounded reports released by Wikileaks.

He said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani perceive the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, as an elder brother, and the leader of Muslim Ummah.

The governments of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan enjoy fraternal relations that are deep-rooted in their histories, faith, culture and religion, he added.

The envoy said it should be clear to everybody that these notorious objectives can never be achieved by providing such misleading reports, and added that the leaderships of both countries, as in the past, will continue to support each other at all times.

A US embassy cable posted by WikiLeaks said that the Saudis did not trust and instead considered Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari as well as other leading politicians of the country “corrupt”.

“Saudi relations with Pakistan have been strained because the Saudis don’t trust Zardari and see him and other leading Pakistani politicians as corrupt,” said a secret cable from the US embassy in Riyadh.

“The Saudis are extremely concerned about Pakistan’s political fragility, and have worked hard, through their embassy in Islamabad, to bring the Pakistani factions together,” stated the cable, whose subject was “Scene-setter for Senator Bond’s April 6-6 visits to Saudi Arabia”. (ANI)
