Pak court adjourns 26/11 Mumbai attacks case hearing until April 23
April 17th, 2011 - 3:24 pm ICT by ANIRawalpindi, April 17(ANI): An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Pakistan has adjourned the hearing of the 2008 Mumbai attacks case until April 23.
It maybe recalled that ten gunmen from Pakistan arrived in Mumbai via sea route on November 26, 2008 and started firing indiscriminately at a busy railway station, a Jewish settlement, a popular café and two luxury hotels.
Several innocents were held hostage over the next three days and at least 166 people were killed before Indian commandos smoked out the terrorists on November 28, 2008.
Rawalpindi’s ATC Number 3 deferred the hearing after the prosecution lawyer did not appear before the court on Saturday, the Daily Times reports.
However, Chaudhry Zulfiqar, the other prosecution lawyer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), tendered an application in the court, mentioning that Khawaja Sultan was not the counsel for Ajmal Kasab- the sole surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks- so he could not contest his case.
Defence lawyer Shahbaz Ahmed Rajput said after the proceedings that the prosecution was merely wasting time by tendering a new application on every date of hearing.
It seemed that the prosecution had no solid evidence, which it could present before the court, he added.
The defence lawyer pointed out that the trial had been going on for the last two years, but charges could not be framed so far. (ANI)
