Pak constitution has no room for military courts: Awan
December 26th, 2009 - 2:54 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Karachi, Dec. 26 (ANI): Pakistan’s Law Minister Babar Awan said the PPP government won’t allow military courts in the country, as there is no room for parallel courts in the Constitution of Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference at People’s Secretariat, Awan said that Prime Minister Gilani would take a decision on the issue as per his will in case of a deadlock between the constitution and the law, The Dawn reports.
He clarified that rumours regarding establishment of military courts in all four provinces were being circulated across Pakistan, but such courts wouldn’t be formed under the PPP regime.
He, however, said the federal government was planning to increase the number of Supreme Court judges in order to increase the pace of NRO related cases.
Awan also said that parliament is a supreme body, which along with an independent judiciary and the executive forms a triangle where parliament reserves the right to make legislation.
He said an independent judiciary could cancel any law, which is against the constitution. (ANI)
