Pak calls reports of ISI involvement in Kabul attack ‘baseless insinuations’
October 11th, 2009 - 1:00 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Oct.11 (ANI): Pakistan has rebuked reports that its premiere intelligence agency, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), was involved in the terrorist attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul.
A Foreign Office (FO) statement while condemning the attack, termed the speculations regarding ISI’s involvement as ‘baseless insinuations against Pakistan’.
“Regrettably, Indian officials and the media continue to make baseless insinuations against Pakistan. These have become impulsive reactions betraying a strange mindset,” The Daily Times quoted the statement, as saying.
“Instead of recrimination, India should opt for cooperation,” it added.
It is being speculated by the media that the ISI may have once again played a role in facilitating the miscreants behind the attack, as it allegedly did in a similar attack on the same premises in July 7, 2008.
Earlier, Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, who visited the Indian Embassy in Kabul on Friday, said that the people responsible bomb blast outside the embassy which claimed 17 lives and injured over 60, were enemies of peace, democracy, the people of Afghanistan and the people of India.
“I think the investigation should be completed and as I said whoever is responsible for this attack is against peace, is against democracy, is against the people of Afghanistan, is against the people of India,” Rao told media persons after surveying the damage caused to the embassy by the suicide car bomber.Rao, however, refused to get into the specifics of the investigations nor did she reveal what New Delhi thought about who was behind it.
Rao has already said the suicide attack in Kabul was directed at the Indian embassy.
No embassy staff was killed in the attack, but three ITBP personnel deployed for security duties outside the embassy had received minor injuries. (ANI)
