Pak back to singing its ‘jaded’ UNSC tune on Kashmir
August 14th, 2009 - 1:42 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Aug.14 (ANI): Pakistan has reiterated its ad-nauseum stance of resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolution.
Addressing a gathering at Rawalkot, Interior Advisor Rehman Malik said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has always supported the self-determination right of the Kashmiri’s.
Malik said the United Nations must step in and resolve the issue lingering for the past 62 years.
“Pakistan would continue its political, moral and diplomatic support for the Kashmir cause, and there will be no compromise on the issue. Kashmiri people do not want to invade India. They just want their due right of self-determination in the light of UN resolutions,” The Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying.
This is the second time when Islamabad has resorted to its old rhetoric of resolving the Kashmir issue in line with the UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiris in less than a week.
Earlier, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said Pakistan is seeking a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
“The essence of our position is that a durable settlement of the dispute must conform to the legitimate rights and aspirations of the people of the region,” said Basit. (ANI)
