Warsaw, July 18 (ANI): Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has said that Pakistani authorities have arrested a man in connection with the murder of geologist, Piotr Stanczak who was abducted and subsequently killed by suspected Taliban insurgents in February this year.
“The Pakistani authorities captured a man who is probably one of the murderers, seen on a film of this terrible execution,” Sikorski told a private television channel.
Expressing satisfaction over the arrest, Sikorski pointed out that there is no extradition agreement between Poland and Pakistan.
However, he hinted that the Polish government would demand a death penalty for the accused.
“This man, called Attaullah, was captured in Islamabad. I am happy for him to be tried in Pakistan where the death penalty exists,” The Dawn quoted Sikorski, as saying.
Stanczak was kidnapped from Attock district in September last year. He was beheaded by the Taliban after negotiations between the abductors and Pakistan authorities failed.
Poland had reacted strongly to Stanczak’s brutal murder with Justice Minister, Andrzej Czuma accusing the Islamabad of aiding terrorist activities of the Taliban through its ‘inertia.’ (ANI)
