Lahore, July 2 (ANI): The Pakistan Army has claimed that it has sanitized South Waziristan, and that the Taliban has been flushed out of the troubled tribal region.
Briefing media persons at Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan operations commander Major General Nawaz Khan said that the Pakistan Army has successfully secured the region, adding that all militant hideouts have been destroyed.
Khan blamed ‘foreign forces’ for all the trouble in the region, adding that the Army had also nabbed several foreigners and seized foreign-made arms and ammunition from their possession.
He said efforts were on to bring back people who were forced to flee the region because of the military operation.
The Pakistan Army had launched an offensive in South Waziristan in October 2009 as the Taliban established a parallel government and turned the region into a terror hot bed.
Separately, Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Asif Yasin Malik said that effective measures were been taken for the ” smooth and dignified return of South Waziristan’s internally displaced people (IDPs).
During a high-level military briefing in Jandola, Malik also directed officials to expedite the pace of work of development projects without compromising on quality. (ANI)
