Washington, Dec.11 (ANI) : Concerned by the arrest of five US Muslim men in Pakistan, who were purportedly on their way to the Taliban’s ‘jihad’ camp, President Barack Obama has said that a series of investigations would be carried out to investigate the whole issue.

A statement released by the White House quoted Obama as telling a news conference in Norway that the arrests would be thoroughly investigated.

“I think the details are still forthcoming. There will undoubtedly be a series of investigations surrounding these events, so I’d prefer not to comment on them at this point,” Obama said.

Obama also assured the American Muslim Community that the arrests of the five men, who were reported missing from Virginia from last month, does not reflect their loyalty to the US.

“I think what has been remarkable over the course of the last eight, nine years since 9/11 is the degree to which America has reaffirmed the extraordinary contributions of the Muslim American community and how they have been woven into the fabric of our nation in a seamless fashion,” The Dawn quoted Obama, as saying.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the apprehended men, Sabira Farouk has claimed that her husband was also arrested by the security agencies along with her son, Umar.

Farouk told CNN that Umar had gone to Pakistan to get married, and not to receive any terror training, as the security officials are claiming.

Pakistani officials have revealed that they have recovered laptops and maps showings areas where terrorists have been active during the raid on a house in Sargodha, Punjab.

A US official said that all the five arrested men are likely to be deported, and added that at least two of them are currently being quizzed by the FBI in Pakistan.

“If the individuals are Americans, the United States will be seeking consular access. Under the Geneva Convention, Pakistan is required to notify the United States about any Americans arrested,” State Department spokesman Ian Kelly added. (ANI)
