Rawalpindi, Nov.29 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has rejected the notion regarding any threat to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led government, saying all such assumptions were aimed at demeaning the civilian regime.

“When I took oath, there were talks that I will remain PM for three months only. Then after three months, it was said, three months more. Now I am in office for the last over 18 months. These things are mere speed-breakers to lower our valour,” Gilalin said.

Interacting with media persons after visiting the Adial Jail here, where he spent five years before becoming the Prime Minister, Gilani said the government was moving in the right direction and that there was no threat either to it or the democracy prevailing in the country.

When asked about the continuous attack on the government by the opposition parties, Gilani said it was wrong to say that Nawaz Sharid led Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wanted to destabilise it.

Commenting on the National Reconciliation Ordinace (NRO), which expired on November 28, Gilani said the government would abide by the decision of the court of law in this regard.

“We will honour the courts’ decisions,” The News quoted Gilani, as saying.

When enquired about his relationship President Asif Ali Zardari, the Prime Minister said transfer of the powers of National Command Authority’s (NCA) chairman to him was a true ‘litmus test’ of the relationship shared between the two leaders.

Zardari had transferred the powers he held as the chairman of the NCA Gilani, thereby handing over the country’s nuclear command to him.

“President Zardari believes in the balance of powers between the President and the Parliament and was committed to repealing the 17th Constitutional Amendment as well as 58-2 (B),” Gilani added. (ANI)
