KABUL (BNO NEWS) — A strong but deep earthquake struck the Hindu Kush Region in northern Afghanistan on late Friday evening, seismologists said, but no damage was expected. Shaking was also felt in parts of Pakistan.

The 6.3-magnitude earthquake at 11.51 p.m. local time (1921 GMT) was centered approximately 75 kilometers (45 miles) south-southeast of Fayzabad, a district in Badakhshan Province of northern Afghanistan. It struck about 199 kilometers (124 miles) deep, making it a deep earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey,

Minor to moderate earthquake shaking was felt all across the region, including parts of Tajikistan, northern Pakistan and northern India. No damage was expected, however, due to the depth of the earthquake.
