Nisar says he has ’solid’ proof about facilitators of Raymond Davis’ exit from Pakistan
April 28th, 2011 - 5:46 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, April 28(ANI): Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Leader of the Opposition in Pakistan’s National Assembly, has said that he has “solid evidence” about those who facilitated CIA contractor Raymond Davis’ exit from the country.
US national Davis was arrested for killing two Pakistani youths on January 27 in Lahore, igniting a furore in Pakistan over the shootout, and resulting in a US-Pak diplomatic standoff over his detention.
On March 16- the same day when he was indicted for double murder- Davis was freed and quickly flown out of Pakistan after the heirs of his two victims told a local court that they had accepted compensation, bringing the one and a half month-long saga to an abrupt end.
Nisar claimed in the Lower House of Parliament that he knew who had made Davis’ exit from Pakistan possible, adding that he had had substantial evidence in this regard.
“I have been able to collect solid evidence in the Davis case and I am ready to share it,” the Daily Times quoted Nisar, as saying.
However, the opposition leader refused to share the proof with the government, and instead offered to place it before the House.
He said it was up to the government whether it would like to discuss this in an open session or an in-camera session of parliament.
Nisar also demanded the government to summon officials of Pakistani intelligence agencies in a session and ask them to clear their positions in the Davis issue. (ANI)
