Next 3 years will determine party’s survival: MIC Secretary-General Murugesan
September 22nd, 2009 - 5:04 pm ICT by ANIKuala Lumpur, Sep.22 (ANI): Newly-appointed Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Secretary-General S. Murugesan has said that party’s survival would be determined by the quality of its work which would be carried out in the next three years.
Murugesan said his appointment as the secretary general of the party has came at a crucial juncture and made it clear that neither he nor his young leadership team have any illusions regarding people’s expectations.
“I have no illusions about the task at hand and the expectations that have been placed on the new team.” The New Straits Times quoted Murugesan, as saying.
He said the delegates wanted a change in the leadership and thus have given a chance to younger candidates.
“They wanted to give the younger candidates a chance. Most of the top 10 candidates were below 45. There are now 16 new faces out of the 23 elected CWC members. Change has come to MIC,” Murugesan added.
Murugesan said his prime objective would be to ‘reconnect’ grassroots divisional and branch leaders of the party with the Indian community. (ANI)
