New government should promote harmony among stakeholders: MusharrafFebruary 20th, 2008 - 3:24 pm ICT by admin
Islamabad, Feb.20 (ANI): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that the new government should work in harmony with all stakeholders, and focus on the future of the country.
A Foreign Office press release quoted Musharraf as telling visiting American Senators Joseph Biden, John Kerry and Chuck Hagel that: The post-election scenario has unfolded new political dynamics that hopefully would go in a positive direction.
The Daily Times quoted the senators as having discussed with Musharraf the successful completion of the elections and matters concerning US-Pakistan relations.
They appreciated Musharraf for fulfilling his commitment to hold elections in a free and transparent manner, the statement added.
President Musharraf stressed that all political parties must now focus on the future and cooperate in the best interest of the country.
The senators said the president had an opportunity to strengthen the democratic process and take the country forward. They said a democratic and economically stable Pakistan was important for regional peace.
The senators emphasised that US-Pakistan relations should not be transactional or limited to cooperation on counter-terrorism, adding that these must be broad-based and diverse to serve the best interest of both countries.
Musharraf said his commitment to democracy had once again been vindicated by free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections, and underlined the importance of a broad-based relationship between Pakistan and the US. (ANI)
