Colombo, May 5 (IANS) The Sri Lankan capital Monday got a new British High Commission building. “It gives me great pleasure to open the new building,” the Duke of Gloucester said at the inaugural event. “It is a unique blend of modern British architecture and Sri Lankan design influences.”
British High Commissioner Peter Hayes added: “The building - which fuses British and Sri Lankan architectural features - is a clear demonstration of the strong links between (the two countries).”
The building is a single storey structure designed round a series of courtyards with offices looking onto water features and plants. The high commission is due to move into the new offices in mid-June.
