Nepal to hold Constituent Assembly elections on April 10January 11th, 2008 - 10:13 pm ICT by admin
Kathmandu, Jan 11 (ANI): Nepal will hold the Constituent Assembly elections in single phase on April 10.
The date was decided at a Cabinet meeting today, the Nepalnews reported.
Earlier today, top leaders of the three major parties - the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist) - approved the date at a meeting in Baluwatar.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was involved in a series of consultations, including with Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel and Speaker Subas Nemwang, this week, over the poll dates.
The 23-point agreement between the seven ruling parties concluded recently, had set mid-April as the election timeline.
The Constituent Assembly polls have been deferred twice in the past. (ANI)
