Islamabad, July 12 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the country lacks a proper governing system with neither the parliamentary nor the presidency having full authority.
Replying to a student’s question at the convocation ceremony of the International Islamic University here, Gilani said the prevalent system in Pakistan was a ‘hotchpotch’ of a system.
Gilani vowed to restore the 1973 Constitution after proper amendments, and added that the government would not put restrictions on the media.
“We believe in democracy and there is no restriction on media in the country,” The News quoted Gilani, as saying.
Commenting on the country’s current turbulent situation, Gilani stressed on the need of education for everyone.
“It is only education with which the problems facing the nation could be braved. The real reason behind extremism and terrorism is lack of education,” he said.
Gilani also blamed ‘foreign powers’ for creating trouble inside Pakistan to fulfill their own nefarious aims.
“The extremists are working on foreign agenda and foreign powers are employing them for their ulterior motives,” he added.
Referring to the Afghanistan issue, Gilani said its (Afghanistan) stability was in Pakistan’s favour, and that Islamabad would ensure peace and stability returns to the region as soon as possible. (ANI)
