Nawaz demands timeframe for reform agenda implementation by Pak Govt

Islamabad, Jan 20(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has urged the Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government to give a timeframe for the implementation of his 10-point programme, which he called the ‘national agenda’.
Addressing a high-profile meeting of his party in Islamabad, Nawaz expressed his concern over the lack of a timeline for the agenda implementation by the government, saying that no plan could be enforced sans a timeline.
He regretted the government’s delay in implementing the agenda, and urged Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to show progress in this regard.
“Of the 10 points, the government can implement some within 45 minutes while others may take 45 hours, even then we have given a deadline of 45 days to the government,” The Nation quoted Nawaz, as saying.
Gilani had accepted the agenda after giving it a sound thought, said Nawaz, adding that the country was in an extraordinary state of circumstances, which was the reason why the government needed to act quickly.
Earlier this month, Gilani had bowed to the PML-N demands, assuring Nawaz that he was ready to implement his party’s 10-point charter of demands.
Nawaz had asked the PPP-led federal government to give a clear-cut reply on its list of demands, which included the withdrawal of the increase in POL prices, introducing a mechanism to control electricity and gas prices and load-shedding, effective measures to control corruption as well as ousting corrupt ministers and officers from government departments. The PML-N had also demanded in its charter of demands that the PPP government implement the Supreme Court decisions- including its verdict against the NRO, ensure a 30 percent reduction in the government’s development expenses, reconstitute the Election Commission of Pakistan, recover loans that were written off on political basis, ensure security of the country and strengthen the standing committees of both houses of parliament.
