Nagaland Home Minister nabbed with illegal cash at Kathmandu Airport
June 30th, 2010 - 1:53 pm ICT by ANIKathmandu, June 30 (ANI): Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen was arrested with Rs nine lakh in cash at Kathmandu Airport on Wednesday.
The minister was allegedly carrying a suitcase full of Indian currency.
According to the sources, Rs 500 currency notes are banned in Nepal, and the cash recovered from Imchen was in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.
When quizzed, Imchen reportedly could not explain why he was carrying currency in such large amounts.
His detention has been conveyed to the Indian Home and External Affairs ministries.Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Secretary Lalthara said the minister was on a holiday with his family.
Lalthara confirmed that the minister was carrying Indian currency worth Rs 9 lakh.”Basically, because of his ignorance, he was carrying such a large consignment of cash,” said Lalthara,
“He should have carried his credit card instead of so much cash,” he added.Lalthara confirmed that he had spoken to Union Home Secretary G.K Pillai on the matter. (ANI)
