Musharraf should resign: ImranDecember 28th, 2007 - 6:32 pm ICT by admin
Mumbai, Dec 28 (ANI): Leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and former cricketer Imran Khan on Friday blamed President Pervez Musharraf for the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and demanded his resignation.
Khan’s press conference in Mumbai coincided with Bhutto’s last rites in Larkana. Bhutto died on Thursday evening in a suicide and gun attack minutes after she wrapped up a public rally in Rawalpindi’s Liaqat Bagh area.
Khan accused Musharraf of not providing enough security to Bhutto in spite of the latter publicly expressing her fear of being targeted by extremist elements and sections within the administration.
“In Pakistan, everyone’s life is at risk,” Khan said, summing up the turbulent situation in his country.
He said that 80 percent of Pakistanis wanted Musharraf to go.
He urged India to back pro-democracy sections in Pakistan and said that New Delhi should not repeat the mistake of the Bush Administration by backing one person (Musharraf).
He said that with Benazir’s death, the January 8 election would be nothing but a sham.
He also questioned the neutrality of the judiciary, terming it Musharraf’s ‘personal judicial team’. (ANI)
