Lahore, Aug 3 (ANI): Former president Pervez Musharraf never took his cabinet into confidence on several key issues, including the war on terror, the Lal Masjid operation, restrictions on media, the judicial crisis and the army operation against Nawab Akbar Bugti, PML-Q dissident group leader Humayun Akhtar Khan has said.
Appearing in the television programme, Najam Sethi Special, he said that the cabinet did not endorse most of Musharraf’s executive decisions.
He said the cabinet was not included in almost 99.9 percent of the political decisions taken by Musharraf during his tenure.
Humayun said he had been tagged to become the Prime Minister instead of Shaukat Aziz at the time, adding his appointment was blocked because the Chaudhry brothers were afraid of him.
He said this fear had prompted them to choose a technocrat such as Aziz for the post of prime minister instead of a seasoned politician.
Replying to a question, Humayun said no one had ever dared to speak against any of Musharraf’s decisions despite statements by politicians claiming they had opposed the former leader.
He admitted that he had been among those who had never opposed Musharraf, and added that he attempted to prevent the Lal Masjid operation and the judicial crisis as a member of the cabinet. (ANI)
