Lahore, July 18 (ANI): In what can be seen as a setback for former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf’s political ambitions, a top leader of one of the Pakistan Muslim League’s faction has said that the ‘ex-dictator has no future in the country’s politics.’

Interacting with media persons during a press conference here, PML-Zia chairman Muhammed Ejazul Haq said it would be very hard for General Musharraf to stage a comeback on country’s political stage.

Responding to a question, Haq said that his party was in contact with other political parties including Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and the Sindh Awami Ittihad to work together for the welfare of the nation.

“We want the sincere and patriot people must come forward to play their role for the welfare and prosperity of the nation,” The News quoted Haq, as saying.

Musharraf, who is currently living in London on an unannounced exile, has floated a new political party with an aim to return to Pakistan’s political scene, however, he has failed to garner much support, with no well-known leader from any of the PML factions joining agreeing to join his -All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).

According to well-placed sources, Musharraf has failed to win over important PML leaders, who met him in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the recent past.

In what is being seen as a jolt to Musharraf’s political ambitions, the general was advised by his political sympathisers to refrain from returning to Pakistan until he receives “positive signals” from within the country.

According to sources close to Musharraf, his decision to name non-political people like Rashid Qureshi and Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif as leaders of his party has cost him dearly. (ANI)
