Islamabad, Dec 21 (ANI): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Charsadda in which at least 50 people were killed.
Musharraf said that no true Muslim could even think of killing a large number innocent faithful, who gathered to offer Eid prayers.
A handful of terrorists are aiming to force their distorted thinking on practicing Muslims, Musharraf said in a statement.
He pledged to continue fighting against terrorism and said the perpetrators of such crimes will be pursued relentlessly and eliminated at all cost, reported The News.
Musharraf expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the attack and directed the law enforcement agencies to track down terror masterminds.
He also directed the authorities to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.
The suspected suicide attack, which killed more than 50 people and injured several others, was at a mosque near the residence of Former Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, but he survived the attack.
Information Minister Nisar A Memon telephoned Sherpao to enquire about him and his son, who were injured the suicide attack.
In the wake of the devastating explosion, Karachi police have been put on red alert.
The police and other security institutions were already on high alert here on the eve of Eidul Azha and following the Charsadda terror havoc, Karachi police have been put on red alert for three days, Geo News quoted Karachi CCPO (Capital City Police Officer) Azhar Ali Farooqi, as saying.
Farooqi further said that the leave of the police personnel has been terminated.
Police would remain posted at the mosques, Imambargahs and other places of prayers, besides at key-buildings. (ANI)
