More killed in Karachi than Mumbai: Gilani

Islamabad, Dec 25 (IANS) More people were killed in the terror attack on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s convoy on her return home from exile last October than were killed in the Mumbai carnage, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Thursday.”More Pakistanis died in Karachi than all those who died in Mumbai,” Gilani told reporters in Lahore, adding: “We, too, are victims of terrorism.”
The prime minister also termed the Karachi strike as “more horrific” than the Mumbai attacks.
A series of blasts Oct 18, 2007 targeted Bhutto’s convoy as it wound through the streets of Karachi. At least 139 people, most of them from Bhutto’s Pakistan Peoples Party, died in the blasts.
Bhutto was assassinated Dec 26, 2007 as she left a political rally in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, adjacent to Pakistan capital Islamabad.
At least 170 people were killed in the Nov 26-29 Mumbai attacks that India has blamed on elements operating from Pakistan.
