Karachi, Aug.7 (ANI): Pakistan chief selector Mohsin Khan has backed the decision to recall middle order batsman Mohammed Yousuf in the national squad for the ongoing Test series against England, saying the former captain’s inclusion would provide the much needed strength to the batting order.

“He (Yousuf) is a seasoned player and his inclusion will be a boost for the team in the remaining Tests against England,” Mohsin said.

Mohsin said that Yousuf’s presence in the team would not only boost the batting line up, but would also provide the younger members of the squad an opportunity to learn from his experience.

“Yousuf is one of the best batsmen in the world. The presence of such a player will definitely give a huge boost to the team. The biggest thing is his presence will also be a good thing for the youngsters in the side who can learn a lot from him and he can also guide them through the tough tour,” The Daily Times quoted Mohsin, as saying.

Yousuf, who was rushed to England following Pakistan’s horrific batting display in both innings of the first Test at Nottingham, was not included in the final eleven for the second Test, which started at Edgbaston on Friday due to jetlag.

Team manager Yawar Saeed said the former captain was not included in the squad to give him more time to prepare international comeback.

“He (Yousuf) has not played any cricket since February and obviously, he himself understand he needs time to make a comeback to Test cricket,” Saeed said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan continued their sorry tale with the whole team being bowled out for a paltry 72 runs in the first innings of the second Test.

Pakistan’s fragile batting order was once again rocked by the attacking English seamers, with Stuart Broad and James Anderson taking four wickets apiece, while Steven Finn bagged two.

Salman Butt’s decision to bat first in ideal bowling conditions cost Pakistan dearly as the team crumbled to a new low score against England.
