Malik for targeted action against Karachi criminals
March 29th, 2011 - 5:35 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Mar 29(ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has announced that law enforcement agencies will take targeted action against criminals to end killings and lawlessness in Karachi.
“Action will be taken without any discrimination against any political party whether they may belong to PPP, MQM, ANP or Sunni Tehreek,” The Nation quoted Malik, as saying while responding to various media queries after holding a detailed meeting with the DG Rangers Pakistan (Sindh).
In a related development, it is learnt that the government has decided in principle to declare the areas affected by targeted killing as ‘red zones’, and intensify police and Rangers deployment in those areas to start across-the-board targeted action against the criminals.
Also, a high-level law and order meeting was held at the Sindh Chief Minister’s House on Monday, presided by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Rehman Malik, in which steps to curb targeted killings in the city were discussed.
The meeting was informed that 11 criminals, who had been involved in the recent spree of target killings but were hiding in the protection of different political parties, have been arrested.
The interior minister said that some of the arrested criminals are serial killers who confessed to killing more than 100 people in the city.
Malik said that the targeted action would be across-the-board and irrespective of any criminals’ taking cover of any political party, adding that black sheep are in all political parties, so action would be taken against all.
Sharing details of the meeting, the interior minister and the chief minister said that the Rangers DG and police had been instructed to take action based on proper intelligence.
All intelligence agencies have been directed to furnish authenticated information well in time, they added. (ANI)
