Malik admits foreign teams imparting anti-terror training to Pak police

Islamabad, Jan.20 (ANI) : Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has admitted that the US is involved in imparting anti-terror training to country’s law enforcement agencies.
Interacting with media persons outside the Parliament House, Malik, while acknowledging Washington’s support, said after the US, security experts from Australia and France would also be coming down to Pakistan to train the country’s police to tackle the increasing terror threat better.
“After the US initiative’s success, Australian and French experts will also be travelling to Pakistan to impart modern counter-terrorism training to civilian law enforcement agencies of the country,” The Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying.
He said US experts were supporting Pakistan under an agreement reached between the two countries in 2003 during former President General Pervez Musharraf’s rule.
“The US has also spent around 20 million rupees on training our police officers. Let us take this initiative as a sign of positive things to come. Western governments spend millions funding studies and training their police officials. Now these countries are coming to the aid of our law enforcement agencies,” he added.
Responding to question, Malik the foreign experts were shifted out of the Sihala Police Training College due to security reasons, and added that they would be provided an alternative location to continue their training programme. (ANI)
