Malik, 9 other Pak politicians’ names removed from ECL
December 27th, 2009 - 12:43 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lahore, Dec. 27 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has asked the authorities remove the name of 10 politicians, including him, from the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to a private television channel, the Interior Ministry had issued a letter on December 21 asking all airport officials not to stop the 10 politicians from going abroad.
The letter was issued without informing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), The Daily Times reports.
Malik is among thousands of bureaucrats and politicians who were granted amnesty by the now-nullified National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Many Pakistanis viewed the ordinance as protecting the elite at the expense of the poor, however, Malik had termed the amnesty as ‘fair.’
The Interior Minister has already rejected corruption charges against him, saying that charges are politically motivated. “Allegations are always there, allegations are on our judiciary. Allegations are on our leadership. Well, fine. If the Supreme Court wants us to go a second time to the court, yes, we’ll go, we’ll clear it. But until proven guilty, nobody can say they are the right charges,” Malik had said earlier. (ANI)
