Malaysia’s gay-themed film earns RM1mil in 5 days!
March 31st, 2011 - 6:20 pm ICT by ANIKuala Lumpur, Mar 31 (ANI): A Malaysian film, depicting the lives of a gay couple, raked in one million ringgit in just five days.
The film, Dalam Botol by Raja Azmi Raja Sulaiman, began screening on March 24.
Raja Azmi, who also produced the film, said the 1mil box office earnings was beyond expectations as her previous movies had not garnered much commercial success.
It is understood that the film cost around 800,000 to produce, not including promotion costs.
Raja Azmi hoped the film would send a clear message to the public about gay culture.
“For me, this film is my soapbox to remind society not to be influenced by gay culture, which is considered taboo in this country,” the Star Online quoted her as saying during an interview with Bernama Radio24. (ANI)
