Lahore High Court quashes plea to transfer Lakhvi’s case
January 23rd, 2010 - 2:02 pm ICT by ANILahore, Jan.23 (ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) has quashed Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s lawyer’s petition seeking the transfer of his trial from the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) to Lahore.
The court, while directing the provincial government to provide foolproof security to Lakhvi’s counsel Khwaja Sultan, rejected the appeal to transfer the case, The Daily Times reported.
Lakhvi’s counsel had moved a petition in the LHC seeking the transfer of his trial from the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi to Lahore, saying his life is at risk from the personnel of Indian secret agencies, who were ‘roaming around the capital’.
It is possible that Indian agencies’ personnel might target me for pursuing Lakhvi’s case, the petition stated.
Sultan, in his petition, said Lahore was a safer place, as there were not many Indian ’spies’ there.
Seven Lashkar operatives including Lakhvi, communications expert Zarar Shah, Abu al-Qama, Hamad Amin Sadiq and Shahid Jamil Riaz are being tried by the anti-terrorism court in connection with the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack case. (ANI)
