Lahore HC reserves verdict in plea challenging Zardari’s pardon to Malik
April 29th, 2011 - 5:34 pm ICT by ANILahore, April 29(ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved its judgement on a petition challenging the pardoning of Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik by President Asif Ali Zardari.
The court was hearing a petition by Barrister Farooq Hassan, who had pleaded that the pardoning of the Interior Minister by Zardari was unconstitutional, as Malik could have knocked the door of the Supreme Court against the punishment.
A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, reserved the judgement on the petition, The Nation reports.
Chaudhry said that punishing or pardoning the accused was the prerogative of courts and it was not the president’s job. (ANI)
