Kidnapped Iranian, Afghan diplomats being kept beyond Pak provincial police jurisdiction
December 25th, 2008 - 6:00 pm ICT by ANI Peshawar, Dec. 25 (ANI): In a crucial revelation in the Iranian and Afghan diplomats kidnapping case, the top cop of Pakistans Frontier Police, Malik Naveed Khan has said that the suspects behind the kidnapping had been arrested but the envoys were yet to be recovered as they were being kept beyond the police’’s jucidiction.
We have got some important leads in this regard besides nabbing some suspects. They will be recovered soon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Frontier Malik Naveed Khan was quoted by The News, as saying.
Abdul Khaliq Farahi, ambassador-designate of Afghanistan to Pakistan, went missing in September, while, Heshmatollah Attarzadeh, who was serving as commercial attach at the Iranian consulate in Peshawar till November after he was picked up from Hayatabad.
During the past few months, the alleged militants have killed a Japanese journalist and an American aid worker.
The militants started targting high-profile foreigners living in Hayatabad from the last August, when principal officer of the US consulate Lynn Tracy escaped an attempt on her life.
The terrorists picked up Farahi after killing his driver in Hayatabad on September 22. Just after a few weeks, the criminals shot dead US aid official, Stephen D Vance in the university Town along with his local driver on November 12.
Attarzadeh was kidnapped on November 13 after a gunmen assasinated his bodyguard in Hayatabad. The Afghan finance ministers brother was also abducted in the same region. (ANI)
