Islamabad, April 26 (IANS) An important commander of the Taliban was captured Monday in a military operation in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi, officials said.
Hakim Waliullah Swati was captured from his house in Karachi’s Orangi town locality, Xinhua reported, citing officials.
He was shifted to an undisclosed location for enquiry. Swati was involved in several attacks on the security forces in the Swat region.
Since February, several top Afghan Taliban leaders, including second-in-command of the terror group Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, were nabbed in Karachi.
Four other Taliban militants were killed in an operation in northwest Pakistan. Officials said the militants were killed in Kanju area of Swat.
A curfew was clamped in different parts of Swat after the fighting.
Swat is one of the strongholds of the Taliban.
