Islamabad, Oct.7 (ANI): Defending the Kerry Lugar Bill, Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has termed the controversial aid package as a ‘big success’ of his government.
Addressing a meeting of government coalition partners, Gilani said the United States has assured all help to Pakistan.
“The passage of the Kerry-Lugar Bill is a big success of the government as it is for the first time that the United States has supported a democratic government in Pakistan instead of dictatorship,” The News quoted Gilani, as saying.
Referring to the massive discontent that various political parties have expressed over the terms and conditions attached with the Bill, Gilani said the government is ready for a debate on the issue in the National Assembly.
“The government is not afraid of bringing any issue of national importance before the House, be it the Kerry-Lugar Bill, NRO, anti-terrorism policy or accountability,” he said.
“Our constitutional experts are reviewing whether it is necessary to bring it to parliament and a decision would be taken on their recommendations,” Gilani added.
Commenting on the Baloch insurgency, Gilani said the government is in the process of evolving a consensus by taking the political leadership of the country into its confidence.
He said anti-terrorism laws of the country are being strengthened in order to check the terror menace effectively. (ANI)
