Islamabad, Dec.4 (ANI): President Obama’s new Afghan policy has Pakistan deeply worried, as diplomatic sources said Islamabad was ‘kept in dark’ regarding the revamped strategy.

According to sources, the Obama administration did not share the ‘fine details’ of the new policy with Pakistan.

“We have a number of reservations over the main thrust of the policy and the implementation process … this could have serious consequences for Pakistan,” The Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.

They said Pakistan was also ’seriously perturbed’ by the US administration’s claim that Pakistan was the ‘epicenter’ of terrorism and Obama’s implicit statement that the US retained the right of ‘hot pursuit’ to hunt down terrorists fleeing into Pakistan.

Pakistani leadership is apprehensive that President Obama’s decision to send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan to facilitate the eight year long ‘war on terror’ would further implicate issues in the border region and fears that the step would lead to more extremists sneaking into the country.

“Pakistan’s policymakers believe the US military build up would lead to more violence, push more refugees into Pakistan and further strain socio-economic conditions,” added.

They said Islamabad’s main concern was over the deployment of additional troops, as it was ‘not clear’ from the revamped policy that where the additional troops would be deployed in Afghanistan. (ANI)
