Islamabad, April 15(ANI): Pakistan Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has reiterated the military’s resolve to bring peace and stability to the affected tribal areas in the country.

General Kayani, who visited the tribal North Waziristan region to launch a major road project from Bannu to Ghulam Khan on the Afghan border, vowed to protect the lives and property of the tribal population against all internal and external threats.

Addressing the tribal elders, General Kayani said that he appreciated their “support and acknowledged their sacrifices in the war against terrorism.”

Meanwhile, the military said in a statement that the four-billion-rupee road project is aimed at the social development of the tribal areas.

“The road will provide a central trade route between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This will open multiple opportunities for the people of North Waziristan,” The Nation quoted the statement, as saying.

The project will also provide employment opportunities to approximately 2,000 locals.

General Kayani also visited Peshawar on Thursday, where he was briefed about the ongoing stability operations. He also met with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti and discussed the security situation in the province. (ANI)
