Kayani ‘loses cool’ calling latest US drone attack as “intolerable and unjustified”

Islamabad, Mar 18 (ANI): Pakistan’s army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has condemned the recent United States’ drone attacks on his country as “intolerable and unjustified”.

General Kayani also insisted that the attack, which killed about 40 people, was an example of a “complete violation of human rights”. The attack had reportedly killed mostly civilians who were attending a tribal meeting near North Waziristan’s regional capital, Miranshah.

He said that such “acts of violence” make it harder to fight terrorism, adding: “It is highly regrettable that a jirga [meeting] of peaceful citizens including elders of the area was carelessly and callously targeted with complete disregard to human life,” he said.

“It has been highlighted clearly that such aggression against people of Pakistan is unjustified and intolerable under any circumstances,” The BBC quoted Kayani, as saying.

Tension has been growing in recent weeks between the US and Pakistan.

Although American drone attacks have been a bone of contention between both the countries, the recent acquittal of CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murder has sparked protests across Pakistan.

Officials have said that two drone attacks were carried out by the US in the Datta Khel area 40km (25 miles) west of Miranshah recently. (ANI)
