Kabul, Dec 9 (ANI): Given an increase in al Qaeda training activity in Pakistan, it is a more violent country than Afghanistan, Afghan President Hamid Karzai told the then British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in an August 2008 meeting, a diplomatic cable unveiled by the whistle-blower website WikiLeaks has revealed.
“Karzai and Brown spent a significant portion of their meeting talking about the situation in Pakistan and the September 6 presidential elections,” said the leaked cable, classified as “confidential” by Political Minister Counselor Greg Berry.
“Karzai is reportedly “warm” on PPP leader Zardari, but encouraged the U.S. and UK to “open channels” to PML leader Nawaz Sharif,” it added.
According to the document, during the meeting, “Karzai averred that given the increase in AQ training activity on the Pakistan side of the border, Pakistan is actually a more violent country than Afghanistan.” (ANI)
