JUI-F slams Pak Govt for non-provision of enhanced security to Fazlur Rehman
April 1st, 2011 - 1:24 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, April 1(ANI): The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has expressed complete dissatisfaction over the security provided by the government to party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman- who also holds the key portfolio of Chairman Kashmir Committee- despite repeated requests made since 2008.
Maulana Fazl escaped two life attempts within a span of 24 hours when two suicide bombers blew up their explosives- one in Swabi on Wednesday, and the second in Charsadda on Thursday- both blasts occurring at places where the JUI-F chief was expected to address public gatherings.
One of the JUI-F office-bearers said that several requests were made to the government functionaries for the provision of enhanced security to Fazlur Rehman, but “the Interior Minister [Rehman Malik] is not ready to go for more steps.”
“If not equal to the prime minister, the Maulana deserves security arrangements at least equal to Rehman Malik as he (JUI-F chief) has a standing not only in Pakistan but also throughout the Subcontinent,” The News quoted JUI-F Secretary General Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, as saying. He said the JUI-F workers were providing a major part of security to Fazlur Rehman since he received the alert from the government in the 2008 general elections.”As far as the threat is concerned, there had been a rocket attack on Maualna Fazlur Rehman’s home and at several times on our party offices but there was not any report of suicide attempts,” he added.Haideri pointed out that the government had never paid heed to the provision of security to Maulana Fazl, though its ordinary ministers, having no political background, were moving in convoys.
